Last August 3, hundreds of delegates to the Phi Beta Kappa Society’s 45th Triennial Council voted to grant a charter for a chapter at Mississippi State University.
Throughout this academic year, Phi Beta Kappa members on the faculty have been doing the work of establishing the chapter: drafting and approving a chapter constitution and bylaws, electing officers, staffing committees, and developing a process for selecting students for induction. On April 2, Phi Beta Kappa officials will visit MSU to preside over the installation ceremony for the new Gamma Chapter of Mississippi, and to witness the first induction of Mississippi State students into the nation’s oldest academic honor society.
